The schedule was already short and then two postponements added to the lightness of the day. That was sort of good news for the Game Picks as they went 6-1 for the day. MLB Game Picks - Saturday: September 21, 2013

<div style="text-align: justify;">12-3. Now that is one fine picking day. The only three incorrect picks included: the Pirates, who had the lead over the Reds late into that game and could not hold it; the Phillies who lost to Dice-K and guaranteed themselves a losing season and the Rangers whose bullpen was out-pitched by the Royals bullpen. But heck, I cannot complain about a day like that. Nice.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">A week and a day to go. It is incredible that the regular season is almost over. Saturday's picks:</div><br /><ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Bay <b>Rays </b>over the Orioles</u>: The Orioles had their chances yesterday and battled for eighteen innings! The poor guy has pitched his heart out all season to no avail. But <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/medlekr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Kris Medlen</a></strong> has had an excellent second half and the Braves win the game. Too bad Travis Wood could not have pitched against <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/woodal02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Alex Wood</a></strong>. MLB Game Picks - Tuesday: September 10, 2013

<div style="text-align: justify;">The first three completed games yesterday were correctly picked. But then only two more picks would be correct the rest of the evening. Der. The one that galls me the most was the Cubs win over the Reds. If you look at yesterday's picks, I even called it. I said those are the games you have to look out for because a team just finished a big series and will let down on the Cubs. And sure enough, they ran into a good pitcher in <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/woodtr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Travis Wood</a></strong> and lost. Why did I not pick it that way then!? Der.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/scherma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Max Scherzer</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/weaveje02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jered Weaver</a></strong> did not come through for me (or their teams). That was a terrific game. The Astros initially blew it and the Mariners had a nice lead heading into the ninth and then Lord <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/farquda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Danny Farquhar</a></strong> blew it. Perhaps I should direct my emotions toward his dog though. I think <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mcallza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Zach McAllister</a></strong> wins this game with the only exception to that thought if <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/guthrje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jeremy Guthrie</a></strong> has a really good game. The Indians are simply better than the Royals.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Yankees over the <b>Orioles</b></u>: This pick depends on <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/novaiv01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Ivan Nova</a></strong> to have a dominating performance. It does not seem that any Yankee starter can rise to such an occasion. The last time the Yankees saw <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?results=gonzami03,gonzal009mig,gonzal010mig,gonzal006mig,gonzal003mig&utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Miguel Gonzalez</a></strong>, they roughed him up pretty good. Not very confident on this pick.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Phillies </b>over the Padres</u>: If you look at <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cloydty01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Tyler Cloyd</a></strong>'s season, if he pitches against a middling team, he does well. Most of his bad outings have come against really good offenses. The Padres are not a good offense. However, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cashnan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Andrew Cashner</a></strong> is a talented pitcher that can blow this pick up.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Blue Jays</b> over the Angels</u>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buehrma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Mark Buehrle</a></strong> has been really good for a month and a half now and seems to give the Blue Jays a solid effort in every start. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/willije01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jerome Williams</a></strong> started the season great and then got hammered regularly. He has been pitching a bit better of late. If he is not sharp, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/morrilo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Logan Morrison</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stantmi03.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Giancarlo Stanton</a></strong> will jump on him. For the Red Sox, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buchhcl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Clay Buchholz</a></strong> returns. But what will they get from him?</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Reds </b>over the Cubs</u>: Okay, the Reds had their one-game letdown. Now it is time for them to resume their chase for the NL Central. But the Nats have finally started to play a little good baseball and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zimmejo02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jordan Zimmermann</a></strong> is a really good pitcher for them. The Nats should win either early (the first inning) or late.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Pirates over the <b>Rangers</b></u>: My gut feeling is that the Rangers will be this year's team to fade at the end. They did not address their offense and it is killing them. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/liriafr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Francisco Liriano</a></strong> has only allowed one homer in his career (31+ innings) at the Rangers' home ball park and is 3-1 there. He should rebound from his last poor outing. MLB Game Picks - Thursday: September 5, 2013

<br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Wednesday was another good day that saw the Game of the Day pick go down in flames. Darn that <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/liriafr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Francisco Liriano</a></strong> for throwing a stinker. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/darviyu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Yu Darvish</a></strong> did too. How could aces let me down so often this season? The Yankees got a scare late but <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/riverma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Mariano Rivera</a></strong> came to the rescue and got the last four outs. <div style="text-align: justify;">How can the most obvious pick of the day be wrong so often? The Rangers against the Twins. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/darviyu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Yu Darvish</a></strong>, the most talented arm in baseball and the choice of many for the CYA, was on the mound and had a no-hitter through six. Darvish is up against <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hendrli01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Liam Hendriks</a></strong>, a pitcher with a career record of 1-11 and a 5.60 career ERA. Darvish gave up three runs in the seventh. No big deal. The Rangers should still win by scoring five or six runs, right? Of course not. Obvious never is right. The obvious has been wrong three days in a row. If I keep doing this, I am going to go crazy and become this gibberish-speaking lunatic.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Otherwise, it was a good day of picking. But that is all negated by being wrong on the obvious. There is no good feeling from a good day when the obvious never goes right. Today will be that day. Lynn has to have a very good game. He is an intense guy. <div style="text-align: justify;">Gee, Monday was a lot better than the previous days had been. The Cardinals gave away <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millesh01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Shelby Miller</a></strong>'s lead and still came back to win. I think the Rockies will get to him. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rosajo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jorge De La Rosa</a></strong> will have to be better for the Rockies to win though.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Orioles </b>over the Rays:</u> This is sort of a must game for the Orioles. They cannot afford to fall that much further back. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?results=gonzami03,gonzal010mig,gonzal009mig,gonzal003mig,gonzal006mig&utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Miguel Gonzalez</a></strong> is a solid starter for them. But it all depends on what the Orioles' lineup does with <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cobbal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Alex Cobb</a></strong>, who was very good in his first outing back from the DL.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Blue Jays over the <b>Yankees</b></u>: The Yankees traditionally do well against <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buehrma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Mark Buehrle</a></strong>, but it will not matter because <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hugheph01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Phil Hughes</a></strong> is pitching the second game and he is pitching at home. That spells disaster in most cases.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Diamondbacks over the <b>Reds</b></u>: I love both of the lefties in this game in <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/corbipa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Patrick Corbin</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cingrto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Tony Cingrani</a></strong>. Since half of me is Sicilian, I love Cingrani, of course. But I have to go with Patrick Corbin. There have been some cracks in his season lately, but he is really, really good.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Braves over the <b>Mets</b>:</u> <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wheelza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Zack Wheeler</a></strong> was really good in his last outing and should be fine at Citi Field. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beachbr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Brandon Beachy</a></strong> will be really good too. That will probably make this a bullpen game and a big advantage goes to the Braves if that happens.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Dodgers over the <b>Marlins</b></u>: The mini-losing streak for the Dodgers ends but <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/capuach01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Chris Capuano</a></strong> will have to pitch well. At least he has a big ballpark to do it in. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/turneja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jacob Turner</a></strong> has not had much success lately.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Rangers </b>over the Astros</u>: I hate this pick. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/blacktr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Travis Blackley</a></strong> is getting a spot start for the Rangers and he is not that great. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cosarja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jarred Cosart</a></strong> has been good for the Astros and there is no way the Rangers are scoring another fifteen runs. But Cosart will only give you five or six innings and that same crummy Astros' bullpen has to finish the game.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Cubs </b>over the Nationals</u>: There. It has sunk this low. <div style="text-align: justify;">Tuesday was not a good game picking day. There were six extra-inning games last night. Six! Four of them went the opposite way of the pick. Ugh! There had to be a better choice out there than that! The only hope for the Indians here is if Gibson is off and it gets to be a high scoring game.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Tigers over the <b>White Sox</b></u>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/danksjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">John Danks</a></strong> used to be a really good pitcher. Somewhere along the line, his stuff has not been the same and he gets hit hard fairly regularly. The Tigers have no problems with lefties. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/porceri01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Rick Porcello</a></strong> needs to have a good game though.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Royals </b>over the Marlins</u>: A big reason the Royals started this surge of theirs was when <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/santaer01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Ervin Santana</a></strong> started throwing zeroes. And his stuff has been magnificent since. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/turneja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jacob Turner</a></strong> has been throwing well for the Marlins. But the Royals have to be the pick here.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Reds over the <b>Cubs</b></u>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rusinch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Chris Rusin</a></strong> has been fairly stingy for the Cubs when it comes to base runners and runs. But he has been more of a fly ball pitcher than in the past and that is worrisome, especially against the Reds. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/arroybr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Bronson Arroyo</a></strong> never ceases to amaze me. Pitch quick, throw strikes and boom.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Rockies </b>over the Padres</u>: There seems to be little difference between these two teams as far as results go. You would think the Rockies would be more talented. His numbers are as good as he is. They are a down bunch of players. And everything seems to go wrong from umpire calls to bouncing balls. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/weaveje02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jered Weaver</a></strong> is a great pitcher and has made the Yankees look bad before. But I am going with <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/novaiv01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Ivan Nova</a></strong> and the Yankees to go on a roll here.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Nationals</b> over the Giants</u>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/linceti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Tim Lincecum</a></strong> has been pitching much better and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zimmejo02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Jordan Zimmermann</a></strong> has lost his command in his last bunch of outings. So why, then, am I picking the Nationals? Because Zimmermann is my guy, that's why.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Braves </b>over the Phillies</u>: John Lannon can throw an occasional good game but the nod has to go to <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beachbr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Brandon Beachy</a></strong> and the high flying Braves.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Bay Rays over the <b>Mariners</b></u>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/haranaa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Aaron Harang</a></strong> has a chance at least when he pitches at home in Seattle. But the Rays should win this one behind the blazing, but efficient tosses of <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/priceda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">David Price</a></strong>. The Rays have been slumping, but this should be their game.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Rangers </b>over the Brewers</u>: The Brewers may have something special in <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thornty01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Tyler Thornburg</a></strong> as he has pitched very well for them. But he is a fly ball pitcher and that scares me in Texas where the ball flies far into the night. Besides, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/garzama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Matt Garza</a></strong> was a great pickup for the Rangers and should win.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Pirates over the <b>Cardinals</b></u>: Oh man, that error in the ninth inning last night was a killer for the Pirates. What an bad, bad moment for them. But I think they show some resilience tonight with <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/liriafr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Francisco Liriano</a></strong> throwing really well and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millesh01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Shelby Miller</a></strong> is not yet the consistently great pitcher he is going to be.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Athletics</b> over the Astros</u>: The Astros won last night and that threw me for a loop. And Jarred Cosart has been terrific for them. Samardzija drives me crazy.
