The Game of the Day feature fell for the second straight day as the Tigers lost to the White Sox. An Orioles writer wrote the same thing yesterday. Get a new narrative guys. There were a lot of things that went wrong for the Yankees. This really riles me up. First, they hit better against lefties and second, Alvarez is mighty tough to beat at home.</span></li><li style="line-height: 1.5;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="line-height: 1.5; text-decoration: underline;">The Pirates over the <strong style="color: black; line-height: 1.5;">Braves</strong></span>: The Pirates hope to kick a dog when it's down. I still worry about his control. But so far, so good. The Dodgers need to put the Giants away. The Giants are very good and not being put away. The bad news was that a lot of the rest of the picks messed up. The biggest thing that hurt me yesterday was the three extra-inning games. All three ended up on the opposite side of what I predicted. Now that is lousy luck right there.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Tuesday returns to a full slate of games and here are the picks: </span></div><ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Dodgers over the <strong>Nationals</strong></span>: I do not usually like to pick a pitcher coming off the disabled list. Both teams will have tired bullpens. Rays' minor league K/9 rate is down, but the lefty has suddenly found great control.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Bay <strong>Rays</strong> over the Orioles</span>: I like <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tillmch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Chris Tillman</a></strong> a lot and he can be a shut down guy at times. I know it has to end some time. How long has this home stand been? And they are not having fun at Coors Field. <span style="font-family: inherit;">I almost had a perfect night. I was 7-0 with one game suspended and the Angels, which I picked over the A's had a one run lead heading into the last inning. A one-out pinch hit homer by Jaso off of Frieri later, and the pick went bye-bye. I was that close.</span><br /><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: inherit;">Oh well. Even so, the picks are 27-10 over the last three days, so that is a pretty good run.</span><br /><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: inherit;">There are sixteen games to pick today. They have to finish the Reds - Pirates game, which was suspended. Here are the picks: </span><br /><ul><li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Pirates over the <strong>Reds</strong></span>: The Pirates have the better bullpen, so I will lean towards them in a short game.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The <strong>Phillies</strong> over the Braves</span>: It seemed like the Phillies just handed the game ot the Braves last night. Weird. Will Leake win? Depends. But I usually get disappointed. Still, if he does his thing and strikes out ten or more, he should win over <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/koehlto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Tom Koehler</a></strong>.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The <strong>Rangers</strong> over the Mariners</span>: When did it go from <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rossro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Robbie Ross</a></strong> to Robert Ross, Jr.? Anyway, the only reason I am picking Ross is because the Mariners are pitching <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beavabl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Blake Beavan</a></strong>.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Red Sox over the <strong>White Sox</strong></span>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/peavyja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Jake Peavy</a></strong> goes back to Chicago and should pitch well there. That is not a good thing against the Blue Jays. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/morrobr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Brandon Morrow</a></strong>'s last start was encouraging.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Mets over the <strong>Diamondbacks</strong></span>: If the Dbacks lose a second straight to the lowly Mets, then stuff is going to start hitting the fan. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mejiaje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Jenrry Mejia</a></strong> has the kind of stuff to win and should be better than <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/arroybr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Bronson Arroyo</a></strong>.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The <strong>Angels</strong> over the Athletics</span>: Let's try this again, shall we? <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/richaga01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Garrett Richards</a></strong> has become really good and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/straida01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.flagrantfan.com" target="_blank">Dan Straily</a></strong> is just okay. Of the five incorrect picks, the Pirates and Reds losing were the most surprising. The Rockies were just a stupid pick. The Braves lost to the Brewers but they did defend the integrity of the game (oh brother). The guy just knows how to pitch. Johnny Helwig, on the other hand, has a WHIP so far in his young career of 2.25. How did I miss his first one? Must have been in a blind spot. Anyway, his performance in that first start was so out of character with his minor league numbers (never struck out so many batters) that I had to blink a little bit. But he should still be better than <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cloydty01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Tyler Cloyd</a></strong>.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Rangers </b>over the Angels</u>: <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/garzama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Matt Garza</a></strong> is the same as always. It's just a different team. He seems to have all this talent and at least a third of the time, just goes off the rails. MLB Game Picks - Friday: September 20, 2013

<div style="text-align: justify;">The great start to this picking week has stumbled in the last two days and I just broke even yesterday in the twelve games that were played. Congrats go to the Dodgers and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mattido01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Don Mattingly</a></strong> for clinching their division yesterday (even though I did not pick them to win) and no, I did not think it was classless to go for a dip in that pool. I think some panties are worn too tightly. And congrats to the Boston Red Sox for clinching the playoffs. They will clinch the division in short order. Going from 93 losses a season ago to 93 wins this season is quite the accomplishment.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This coming week is going to be even more difficult to pick games as clinched division winners will rest people and who knows what will happen then. Let's see if it affects today's Dodgers pick as we take a look at Friday:</div><br /><ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The Braves over the <b>Cubs</b></u>: The Braves want to get their own clinching done and will push forward until that happens. Latos has seen his strikeout totals go down in his last four starts and his hits against go up. He may be tired. Liriano has been terrific.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Indians </b>over the Astros</u>: Would it not be something if <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/francte01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Terry Francona</a></strong> got his guys the wildcard and had to face the Red Sox in the playoffs? Philadelphia doesn't have a much better offense than Miami's but enough to make a difference. Besides, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hamelco01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Cole Hamels</a></strong> is pitching.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>The <b>Yankees </b>over the Giants</u>: What a weird series to be taking place this late in the season. And the pitching match-up is full of angst as <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sabatc.01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">CC Sabathia</a></strong> goes against <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/linceti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.blogger.com" target="_blank">Tim Lincecum</a></strong>. This game could go either way. MLB Game Picks - Saturday: June 1, 2013
